56 different minerals can be found in the iron ore fields at Bastnäs. This is one of the richest sites for minerals in the world. Scientists and collectors from all over the world come here to add to their collections with mineral from Bastnäs. The elements cerium and lanthanum were discovered in "Bastnästungsten" in 1803, but the mines are mentioned as early as 1692.
