It takes its toll to climb the immensely high heaps of
slag at Liens foundry. From the top you can see Riddarhyttan community
and the whirlpools around the foundry. In the blast furnace, which was
built in 1847, there is a sound and light show that illustrates the
work that was carried out in the foundry. Iron was handled here from
the 17th century until 1959. The building has been restored and you
can climb up in the charging gallery. From there the whole iron production
process was directed. Columns of fire stood high when charcoal flamed
up under pressure from the bellows. |
