The earth is red. The iron ochre has given it its name. 10 kilograms roasted red earth produces 2 kilograms malleable iron. The name of the place is Röda jorden, Red Earth, and it lies at Riddarhyttan. This is a place where iron has been produced for over 2000 years. |

| Twice a year, on the well-visited "Röda jorden" days sooty smiths stoke the reconstructed furnaces, but you can visit the site whenever you like. Five of the pre-historic iron-producing sites have been linked together by a two kilometre long trail. There are information boards will guide you through the history of the area. | Röda jorden lies inside a forested area by route 68 just to the south of Riddarhyttan village. Turn off the main road at the sign Röda Jorden Ekomuseum, then follow the small wooden signposts. |
