The ice lies throughout the year. Even during summer. This is because to heat of the earth is insufficient to melt the ice that was built during winter. After a short walk along a marked trail in the forest you arrive at mine nr. 8. Here you will find a shelter and fireplace. |
| In the slope is the mine where ore was broken during the 17th century. Tomba ore was highly regarded for its good qualities and the ease with which it was smelted. |
| Route description |
| The site lies isolated in the forest. Take the road from Smedjebacken towards Björsjö and turn left at the sign towards Tolvsbo. Turn left towards Tombo at the second signpost showing Tombo. The Ice Mine lies at the end of a short walk of about 900 m in the forest. Please note; that the tract is gravelled but the last part is difficult to pass. There are parking places for two cars.
